Jeffrey Frey
Dr. Frey is a graduate of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served a tracked internship at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit/Warren, MI and his General Psychiatry residency at Michigan State University. During this time he served two terms as Chief Resident and conducted research on feedback mechanisms in self-injurious behavior. Prior to coming to LIOBM, Dr. Frey served as Director of Michigan State University’s inpatient psychiatry service and also worked with outpatients, subspecializing in the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In 2014, he took over as the psychiatrist for Origami Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center and continues to serve as their psychiatrist in addition to his work at LIOBM. Dr. Frey continues to teach medical students and psychiatry residents and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry in the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Frey currently practices general adult psychiatry but continues to subspecialize in the treatment of PTSD, with a particular emphasis in treatment of military, law enforcement, and first responder personnel. He incorporates both pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy into his treatment philosophy and focuses on a holistic approach including quality of sleep, diet, physical activity and home and work environments.
Dr. Frey served as an enlisted Soldier and officer in the United States Army for over 25 years in both the National Guard and on active duty and retired in 2015 at the rank of Major. He deployed with the 13th Combat Support Hospital as a psychiatric technician to Saudi Arabia in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1991 and is a graduate of the Army’s Airborne and Flight Surgeon courses. He also holds the Expert Field Medic Badge and has been awarded two Meritorious Service Medals. He has served in leadership roles including squad and section leader, platoon leader, and detachment commander.
Dr. Frey is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, is a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and is a member of Sigma Sigma Phi National Osteopathic Honor Fraternity.
